SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sales logged a double-digit growth in January thanks to strong demand for electric vehicles and German luxury models, industry data showed Wednesday.
The number of imported vehicles sold here jumped 37.6 percent from a year earlier to 20,960 in January, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).
German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 6,270 units in January.
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz came next with the sale of 5,121 units, followed by U.S. carmaker Tesla with 1,966 units, Lexus with 1,464 units, BYD with 1,347 units and Volvo with 1,037 units.
The number of European models sold here was 15,132 in January, taking up 72.2 percent of the total. The U.S., Japanese and Chinese brands recorded the market shares of 10.9 percent, 10.4 percent and 6.4 percent each.
